Boxing writers named him as having re-invented the sport of sweet science, inspired millions, perhaps billions of people around the world. It would not be an overstatement that Manny Pacquiao is being hailed these days as the savior of a sport and a nation. The Filipino boxer, who barely stands at 5ft 6½ inches , is universally regarded as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, a point he emphatically demonstrated the past decade by crowning himself world champion in seven weight classes, the last the welteweight belt at the expense of Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto only November of last year, in the process enriching himself by US$13 million. No less that Bob Arum, his promoter who head Top Rank, believes Pacquiao, otherwise – known as “ Pacman”, is the one boxer responsible for a resurrection of the long-dormant sport.
What’s that you say — looks digitally doctored? I don’t know. The basketball never leaves the frame, it takes the right looking bounce (considering how flat it is), and their reaction appears genuine, especially if you guess this took 50 or so attempts to successfully pull off like I do.
The brand-new golf course at the Legends Golf & Safari Resort in South Africa is an amazing stretch of 18 holes designed by 18 different top-flight golfers, including Padraig Harrington, Colin Montgomerie, K.J. Choi, Retief Goosen, Justin Rose, Trevor Immelman and Vijay Singh.
The course’s so-called “Xtreme 19th” hole is a par 3 — a par 3 whose tee is atop a cliff on Hanglip Mountain, more than 1,400 feet above a green carved like the continent of Africa. You’ve got to take a helicopter to get to the tee box, and from there it’s more than 630 yards to the pin. Once you tee off, it takes nearly 30 seconds for the ball to hit the ground! Crickey!
Should you manage to drill a hole-in-one on the 19th, congratulations — you’ve just won yourself a million bucks, and the right to call yourself the most Xtreme golfer on Earth! Playing all 19 holes runs about 2,000 South African rand, or about $220 in American bills, but for that you get the helicopter ride, plus a bunch of souvenir swag and a DVD of your shot..pretty good value for money if you ask me . I’m an avid golfer and without a doubt, this course is on top of my courses to play list!
This is an awesome ad promoting the World Tour of Guitar Hero. It features four sports superstars, namely Kobe Bryant, Tony Hawk, Alex Rodriguez, and Michael Phelps.
The promo features the rich-as-shit foursome playing music in pink button-ups and their underwear (except for vocalist Kobe, who was too shy and rocked some b-ball shorts instead).
8:00PM on 8-8-2008. Last Friday’s Opening Ceremony was one of the moments in this world when superlatives had no shot. Brilliant. Amazing. Jaw-dropping. Fantastic. Take your pick.
The first moments of the ceremony were signaled by the amazing rhythmic rumble of 2,008 percussion drums that produced a pulse-pounding start. The drums also turned into a giant set of cascading lights, shuffled from one end of the bird’s nest to the other, as a roaring crowd climbed to its feet. There was something primal yet elegant and powerful about the drums at the start.
The sheer number of human beings incorporated into the ceremony was staggering. The government put the tally at more than 10,000, and it didn’t appear to be an exaggeration.
But the array of costumes and props was like nothing an Olympics has ever seen. The sets produced were unending, from a titanic scroll to an undulating stadium floor that produced Chinese symbols to a planet that rose from beneath the stadium deck – the sets took you through a 5,000-year time capsule of China’s history. And the costume designs (there were over 15,000 costumes used) were flawless, vivid and colorful, whether it was the thousands of ancient robes or space-age suits that contained countless flickering bulbs.
The lighting of the torch really grabbed me. Beijing set a mind-bending standard that defied belief. I bet that nobody in the building could have guessed what ultimately happened! Let’s all enjoy and watch 2 weeks worth of the Games and hope that the Philippines will take home a medal! Mabuhay!
Manny Pacquiao added to his impressive resume by knocking out David Diaz with 36 seconds remaining in the ninth round to claim the WBC lightweight championship at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.
Pacquiao with a record of (47-3-2, 35 KOs) thoroughly dominated his adversary to complete his quest to capture four world titles in as many weight classes. He went on the offensive immediately and opened up a pronounced gash above Diaz’s right eye and across the bridge of his nose. Diaz crumbled face forward and lay at Pacquiao’s feet, a symbolic final scene of Pacquiao’s ultimate conquest. Too bad I didn’t get to watch it live, we just don’t have cable at home haha.
Some think Pacquiao’s next move should be to bulk up five more pounds for a wildly lucrative fight with England’s most popular plugger, Ricky Hatton. Roach confirmed he would love Pacquiao to take on Hatton, though it would require Top Rank to pay step-aside money to Paulie Malignaggi, who’s due for a shot at Hatton.
According to Fab, members of the NBA ChampionsBoston Celtics Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Sam Cassell were celebrating with Manny in his locker room. They asked for Manny’s autograph and had pictures taken with him, cool!
What a bummer. I just found out today that Tiger Woods will miss the rest of the season due to a torn ACL. Two days after a grueling U.S. Open that took him five days and 91 holes to win, Woods said Wednesday he will have reconstructive surgery on his left knee.
While I am obviously disappointed to have to miss the remainder of the season, I have to do the right thing for my long-term health and look forward to returning to competitive golf when my doctors agree that my knee is sufficiently healthy. My doctors assure me with the proper rehabilitation and training, the knee will be strong and there will be no long-term effects.
Woods also revealed that he had a double stress fracture in his left tibia, suffered two weeks before the U.S. Open. What was he doing there anyway? Well you don’t get to be Tiger Woods by having everyone tell you what to do. That apparently includes doctors. He looked at the doctor and said, ‘I’m playing the U.S. Open and I’m going to win.’ Tiger was told to spend three weeks on crutches, followed by three weeks of rest. Instead he chose to compete, won in a dramatic fashion, but paid a big price.
If things go according to plan, and Tiger obeying the doctor’s orders, he will be back to compete in next year’s Masters and play in an event or two. He will be missed no doubt.
Congratulations to the Boston Celtics for winning their 17th NBA title, and a first one for the Big Three (Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen).
I must say the LA Lakers didn’t really have any chance of winning this one. The Celtics are determined and really dominant in every way, hence the score of 131-92. Boston fans lifted their team by ear-splitting chants of “Beat L.A.” and early cries of “Seventeen” in the closing seconds inside the TD Banknorth Garden Arena.
Garnett scored 26 points with 14 rebounds, Allen scored 26 and Pierce, the finals MVP who shook off a sprained right knee sustained in Game 1, added 17 as the Celtics, a 24-win team a year ago, wrapped up their first title since 1986.
In the final minute, Pierce doused Celtics coach Doc Rivers with red Gatorade. Garnett dropped to the parquet and kissed the leprechaun at center court and then found Russell, the Hall of Famer who taught him the Celtic way, for a long embrace.
After 91 holes, Tiger Woods finally overcame Rocco Mediate to claim the 2008 U.S. Open title after a compelling 18-hole playoff went to sudden death at Torrey Pines on Monday.
It was Tiger’s 14th career Major title, which puts him four shy of Jack Nicklaus’ record. Woods said his latest major was one he will cherish.
This was his first tournament after undergoing surgery on his left knee in May, and to pull off this victory is just simply unbelievable. But if your Tiger Woods, anything is possible.
Woods said he would “shut down” and spend time resting his knee, but added he hoped to be back in action at Royal Birkdale in England for the Open Championship, starting on July 17. Can’t wait for that!
