Fab Asks: Is it Safe to take L-Glutathione Pills/Tablets?

Fab writes…

I have a question for all our readers, males and females alike –- is it safe to take L-Glutathione Pills? Does it have any adverse or negative side effects? I’m curious because I have friends who actually take the pills and get injections twice a week. They use it primarily to have clearer and whiter skin, but according to resources online, skin whitening is not it’s principal function; it is actually a side effect.

 flawless

So what does it really do? Is it good or bad for the body? From what I have read, L-Glutathione is a super antioxidant but it is not as effective when taken orally. However, there are some contradicting statements about this, and here are testimonials that I have read from different forums:

L-glutathione pills isn’t primarily used to lighten up the skin. I use that for my heart. I have MVP (Mitral Valve Prolapse). It’s an inborn heart disease. After taking glutathione for a few months, I have seen the results. My friends noticed and so did my bf, my skin glowed so much more than. I’ve tried 3 brands. I only liked 2 of them. You have to take more than 700mg/day”

Yes, I am one of those who have used it with satisfying effect. I have been using it for the past four years and it has helped me a lot. It has given me a clearer, whiter and finer skin.”

And here are comments from the other side of the fence:

“yes I have tried them. I didnt feel they were worth the effort. Yes its cheap but you really have to spend alot of time with it and I dont think you can lighten more than a shade with pills.”

“Much of what I have read about glutathione suggests you cannot take it in a supplement; something to do with stomach acids and metabolism in your bloodstream. The articles (which are hard to find if you try to google them; most pages are advertiders selling it) say taking glutathione (which is what this product contains) would be a waste of time and money. The research, as I interpreted it, shows the only effective way to increase your bloodstream glutathione content is with a whey supplement (bodybuilders take it); it contains lactoferrin, and that triggers glutathione production. Supposedly, so does raw, unprocessed garlic.”

What I can deduce from all that’s being said about this product is that it is not yet proven that taking L-Glutathione orally will whiten your skin. It will be more effective if taken intravenously. Taken orally, it could just work as an anti-oxidant and help flush out toxins from your body. But maybe some of you had personal experiences with using this product. Feel free to share your thoughts on this topic.

Thank God it’s Friday! Cheers! :D

I never heard of L-Glutathione Pills and i think it’s better to do facial rather than taking pills that may cause side effect. I don’t do facial or eat pills that’s why can’t suggest any good methods. XD You wanna whiten your skin? Hehe~

I believe Gluta has been beneficial to some and is just considered a daily supplement – just like the multivitamins we take. But then that’s for health reason. However, the problem seems to arise when it is used for cosmetic concerns like whitening and just like you said kapatid, IT IS A SIDE EFFECT. People (dark-skinned), part of human nature, want to achieve whiter and fairer skin. They become impatient or unrealistic, like complaining if the brand they chose does not take effect in a week or two. I have not personally tried this but I don’t see anything wrong taking it as long as the brand is credible and not from Quiapo or tabi-tabi. Because i remember a Junior student nurse before who shared her experience with it – the gluta she bought for P400 was all gawgaw? Hehe.

My friend’s derma had recommended her to take this but take note: she is Chinese and yeah, with that Chinese jaundice-like skin. joke. so certainly she doesn’t need to whiten her skin but it was suggested to maintain smoother skin. haba noh. sensha. sabi mo kasi share eh. hehe :)

Hey, like you, I’m also interested on this glutathione thing since I learned from my niece that her fair glowing skin was the result of glutathione injection she got twice a week for a month. Now that she has stopped getting injections, I’m observing what’s gonna happen to her next. Will she go back to her original skin tone or will she be fair skinned forever. That I have yet to see. Btw, have a happy weekend!

well as for me I dont have such problem with gettin my skin so white. I have typical fair skin already and i dont wish for “white skin” . in fact i prefer dark brown skin.. which i literally want sooooo desperately..

  5. glutathione Says:

The use of glutathione for health and skin whitening is now gaining acceptance and has an increasing market especially women. However choosing the best and quality glutathione products should be taken into consideration. Only glutathione products that were able to pass the strict government standard should be used. The Beauxi White Plus a 5in1 glutathione is another brand that can assure its users of the health benefit and satisfaction that they will get from the product. Additional information about glutathione can be found at Glutathione, Beauty and Wellness Online Shop

to ALL: thanks for sharing your knowledge and opinions fab ladies ;) much appreciated! it’s funny how people with fair skin want to be “tanned”, and morena (brown-skinned)folks want fairer skin. we humans can never be content, huh?

I used to take gluta pills … started early this year but i ran out of stock … but yeah it depends on what brand you use and your body’s reaction to it! … so you really have to do research on brands and people’s testimonials bout a particular brand.

Gluta pills were originally manufactured and made for the liver and the “whitening” like you said is a form of side-effect.

one thing though … when I was taking gluta pills, i was pimple free, but when i stopped last month … i started getting pimpke outbreaks :( … maybe its one the “after” effects of the pills

  8. Avy Says:

well, i don’t think it is safe to be taking these pills. not unless if someone’s that vain.

  9. ner Says:

hay, fab, true… you like what you don’t have. that’s human nature already i guess. but thank God I’m not addicted to whitening hehe. and i’m not fair-skinned either haha.

i think before taking these pills, you should consult your doctor. yep yep. sometimes what’s good for one might not be as good for another. hehe.

people are getting hooked with gluta because of the advertising. i say: love your own skin. ;)

  10. Business to Business Blog Says:

I don’t like pills like this – I don’t mind vitamnins and things like that, but when it comes to pills that claim to change your body – really not sure
